Port Vallarta – March 2018
Context: Given some prayer intentions I was holding in my heart during this time I was in the habit of lighting two prayer candles to our Blessed Mother when I traveled to different places. This is a little description of one of those candle lighting incidences…
Gorgeous day at the Botanical Garden it’s over an hour outside of Puerto Vallarta with a climb above the city along the coast and then heading inland to the gardens that are not near any major town… Take a look at these two pictures from a bus stop… Do you notice anything different about them?
We took Uber to the Gardens but on the way back we took a bus… Imagine my delight when we walked out to the bus stop and there was a shrine to the Blessed Mother with little candles in front of her… I took a picture for the person I was praying for…
I stopped to say a prayer and wished desperately that I had a match to light a candle for the person that was unlit… I walked to the bus bench next to the shrine and told our Blessed Mother that I was sad I could not light a candle and how perfect it would be if there were two candles for me to light…
Not even the storyteller in me can make up stuff this blessed… within 5 minutes (and remember this is a little bus stop is in the middle of nowhere) a guy drives up, pulls over on the side of the road of the bus stop (opposite direction of oncoming traffic… takes a candle from his car, a match and lights a candle, he notices the unlit candle already on the shrine’s altar and lights it! He rearranged the candles and got back in his car and drove away… I could have done a happy jig… I felt like such a spoiled child…
I couldn’t stop saying Hail Marys in gratitude for the answer to a trivial and indulgent prayer… and then I remembered how much our Blessed Mother loves us and how much right now she’s asking everyone to pray and stay close to her heart that she can bring us to the Sacred Heart of her Son which will be our refuge in the times of tribulation ahead of us…
I will always treasure this picture… may it fill you with light and hope!
